Pharmaceuticals and medicines

Improper disposal of pharmaceuticals can be hazardous if it leads to contamination of land or the maritime environment used by nearby communities or wildlife.

Non-biodegradable antibiotics, antineoplastics and disinfectants should not be disposed of in the sewage systems as they will kill bacteria necessary for the treatment of sewage and may damage aquatic life and water sources.

EWMS collects expired pharmaceuticals in leak- and tamper-proof bins, offering the service in order to ensure that these are safely disposed of through proper means and fully licensed methods and procedures as set out by EU and international legislation.

Destruction certificates are issued once the pharmaceuticals are destroyed.

Our main clients are Gibraltar’s main pharmaceutical importers and users of these products, including pharmacies, hospitals and clinics.
